Romans 5:8 - “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Do I truly believe, absolutely believe, that God loves me? My tendency is to often look at all of the things that are hard, that are not going as I want or as I think they should be, and to then question God’s love for me. Sound familiar? And of course Satan is right there to whisper, “Look at all of that! Clearly, God does not love you like He says.” It feels convincing - it even feels true. But then I go back to the cross where God sacrificed His only Son for me - to be able to rescue me, to forgive me, to bring me into the joy of His family, and to secure a place for me at His great banquet table and a forever home in Heaven with Him. And as I look at that brutal, beautiful, terrible cross, God whispers, “Which of your hard and disappointing circumstances is greater than that?” And it becomes clear, again. God’s eternal display and expression of His love for me at the cross of Christ far, far, far outweighs every reason Satan tries to give me in order to make me question that love. And even in my hard circumstances the God Who loves me promises that He is at work, in ways I can’t see, turning things out for my benefit. Are you doubting God’s love for you today? Spend some time at the foot of the cross. Remember what is true. It’s still true today.
