Luke 19:40 - “I tell you,” he (Jesus) replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.” The plain truth is this: Jesus is worthy of our praise. He is our Savior, Sustainer, Prince of Peace, Lord, Friend, Mighty God, Alpha and Omega, Sacrifice, Intercessor - and that is just for starters! But how often do we give Him the praise He truly deserves? In today’s Scripture the religious elite were trying to keep the people from declaring their praises to Jesus. He responded with the words recorded in Luke 19:40. I believe that the message for us could be stated this way: Don’t let a rock take your place when it comes to praising Jesus. Jesus said that creation will step up and shout His praise if we don’t. He will receive the praise He rightly deserves one way or another. The tragedy for us is that we can miss out on the privilege of being the ones giving it. We can let our negative feelings or our hard circumstances or the oppressive opinions of others quiet our voice of worship and thanksgiving. That is a mistake. Our voice should be used for our Savior. And this world is the only place where we get to display our love for Jesus by fighting through the obstacles that seek to stop us. So today, take a moment to lift your voice and honor Jesus with a word of praise. Don’t let anything steal that opportunity from you. He is worthy!
