Following Joseph’s Example

Matthew 1:24 - “When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife.”  You know the story. Mary becomes pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Joseph, her husband to be, finds this out from Mary, and in a move of compassion was going to “divorce her quietly.” But then an angel visits Joseph and tells him that all of this is God’s doing and to go ahead and take Mary as his wife. What would you do? What would I do? Thankfully, Joseph did what the angel told him to do. Joseph obeyed immediately. Did Joseph understand everything regarding what was happening to him? No way. It's not like this had taken place with anyone else he knew - “So, how did you handle it when it happened to you?” Nope. And here’s the thing: God doesn’t ask us to understand everything or have it all figured out before we obey. The truth is, most of the time we won’t. And we definitely won't understand everything the way God does. He sees it all and knows it all. He sees every possible scenario and every possible outcome, and then He says to us, “Choose this.” Our role is to do what Joseph did. To trust God and His plan and obey immediately. Partial obedience or delayed obedience is disobedience. So let’s follow the lead of a young man 2,000 years ago who said “Yes” to an angel’s message. Let’s trust and obey. It’s what God wants for us and from us, for our good and His glory. Have a wonderful Christmas!
