God is both good and good at forgiving

Psalm 86:5 - “For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive.” This verse gives so much hope for our lives. First, it tells us that God is “good”. This is a statement of Who He is and how He acts. Always in goodness - always for our good. There is never any wrong or hurtful intentions towards us. Never anything lacking or any mistakes in His actions. His goodness to us is perfect and complete. Whatever comes our way that is not good we can be sure that it does not originate with God. But even in that He promises that so strong is His goodness towards us those things can be somehow turned to our benefit (Romans 8:28). The verse goes on to tell us that God is “ready to forgive”. How awesome is this! We do not have to try and bargain with God for His forgiveness or to beg endlessly for it. He is “ready to forgive”. God does not struggle to forgive us. He does not have to get Himself into a proper frame of mind in order to forgive us. He does not have to be convinced by us that we need His forgiveness. No. He is ready to shower us with His great and abundant forgiveness. Whenever we come to Him needing to be forgiven, He is ready. No misgivings. No hesitation. So today, choose to be fully confident that what He has told us about Himself is 100% true. Our God is “good and ready to forgive”.
