Habakkuk 2:1 - “I will stand at my watch and station myself on the ramparts;I will look to see what he will say to me, and what answer I am to give to this complaint.” He was a prophet commissioned by God to speak God’s Words to the people. But Habakkuk had a dilemma. He didn’t understand what God was doing - didn’t understand why God was allowing awful people to do awful things. “It’s not supposed to be this way. Why isn’t God doing something?” These were undoubtedly some of the thoughts racing relentlessly through Habakkuk’s mind. Sound familiar? Ever have questions like that? Ever wonder what God is up to or why He’s not up to what you think He should be? Yep, me too. We all do. It’s encouraging to know that we are not alone, and that we are not the first. In today’s Scripture we hear the words of one of God’s prophets who is wrestling with the same things. And here is something else important to notice - Habakkuk brought his questions straight to God. He didn’t waste time complaining to others or try to bury his concerns deep within himself. He brought them to God. One commentator put it this way: “It’s a wise man who takes his questions about God to God for the answers.” Who better to go to? And what’s more, Habakkuk actually expected a response from his God. He expected God to answer. And so can we. Will He give us all of the answers we want? That’s always up to Him. We walk this life by faith - an absolute trust in our good and wise God. But there is one thing for certain which this verse affirms to us. We can bring all of our questions and concerns and doubts and hard issues about God to God. He welcomed Habakkuk. He will welcome you.
