You are the Evidence

Mark 1:16-17 - “And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.’” There are some amazing truths contained in these two verses. First: Jesus pursued Simon (Peter) and Andrew. In those days it was the potential pupils that would ask to be given the privilege of following a rabbi. Jesus flipped the script because Jesus is a Savior Who pursues. And just as He did it then, He does it now. Jesus pursues you because He wants you. Let that sink in. He knows everything about you and He wants you in a daily, growing relationship with Him. Overwhelming. But there is more. Jesus made Simon and Andrew a promise that day - that He would make them “fishers of men”. Jesus would turn their lives into eternity-shaping messengers of the gospel. They would have the privilege of sharing the good news that Jesus made a way to God and that all who accept Him would become born again. And you know one way in which we are certain that He kept His Word? You and I are christians today. Simon and Andrew shared the gospel with someone who believed and then that person shared the gospel with someone who believed and then that person shared the gospel with someone who believed all the way down to you and me. We are the evidence that Jesus kept His promise to Simon and Andrew. That’s powerful! It’s what Jesus does. Two thousand years later His promise is still going strong. His Word never fails. So His Word to you will never fail. Rest in that today.
