Your darkness is not dark to God

Psalm 139:12 - “even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.” The truth contained in today’s Scripture is an absolute rock to stand on. Think about all of the things that come into our lives bringing darkness. The unwelcome pain, the agonizing hurt of betrayal, the sudden financial reversal, the unexpected job loss, the out-of-control relationship drama, the gut-punch of loneliness and loss, the dreams that now seem unreachable, even our own foolish sinful decisions. All of it and so much more can surround our hearts and minds with a blackness that seems suffocating and hopeless. It’s disorienting and confusing. We can’t see through it or past it. The darkness is real. And while that may be true for us, it is never true for God. Our good and great Heavenly Father assures us that none of it affects His sight. Not one bit. The darkness that covers us and keeps us from seeing things as they really are is “as light” to Him. Nothing obscures His vision of you and what you are experiencing. Your heavy “darkness” is not dark to Him. The One Who is with you and holds you close sees everything perfectly. It cannot be otherwise. He Himself is “light, and in Him there is no darkness at all” (I John 1:5). So when darkness comes and threatens to overwhelm you, trust the God Who has the power to reverse the dark, to turn it into light, and to see you all the way through.
